Banana Fish is a manga series written and illustrated by Akimi Yoshida. It was serialized from 1985 to 1994 in Bessatsu Shojo Comic, a manga magazine publishing Shojo manga (girls' manga). Banana Fish's realist art and action-oriented storytelling broke conventions of the time and attracted an audience beyond its target demographic of shojo readers.

Banana Fish Golden Plaque
The Golden Plaque from the popular manga series Banana Fish features a design of four banana leaves arranged in a circle. This unique plaque would look great on any wall. It is made of high-quality materials and has a durable finish. It is also lightweight and easy to hang.

The Banana Fish anime spanned nineteen tankobon volumes. The realist artwork and action-oriented storytelling were a break from the then established conventions of Shojo manga (girls' manga). While the manga was originally targeted to the shojo audience, it gained a significant male crossover readership.

Initially believed to be a code name for an assassin, the Banana Fish drug was discovered to be a form of mind control. It could reduce a person to a slave by making them obey orders and even kill those close to them. Dino Golzine had used this as a means to infiltrate the US government before he was targeted for death by his own team.

Taking the role of the street gang boss is the Nendoroid of Ash Lynx! He comes with three face plates including a standard expression, shouting expression when in combat and a rare smiling expression that he reserves for those close to him. He also includes a gun and knife for recreating combat scenes.
Banana Fish Canvas
When MAPPA aired Banana Fish everyone thought it was going to be the anti-Yuri on Ice. You know the one, that shook the anime community to its core by not being some silly sakuga #censored# that drenched in cuteness and adorableness.

Instead, it ended up being something else entirely. Something much closer to a grim coming of age story that was branded as BL yet became so much more.

This manga was Akimi Yoshida’s breakout work and marked a departure from her traditional shojo (girls') manga art style, which incorporated more rounded and pretty features. Banana Fish was grittier and more realistic in its character design, establishing a new trend in action-oriented shounen manga that would attract the burgeoning Boys Love audience. This mature series explored themes of greed and loss, as well as the disconnection that war inserts into veterans. It is dark and a bit tragic, but it’s also beautifully told and highly recommended.
